Survey: LGBTI Aged Care

If you are aged 60 and over and identify as LGBTI, or if you are an aged care worker or considering working in aged care, the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) would like your help:

We would like your views on purpose-built LGBTI-specific aged care facilities

Lifeview Residential Care announced in 2013 its plans to build an ‘LGTBI and friends’ aged care and retirement living facility in Melbourne’s inner-city. Lifeview also announced its implementation of Project Pride, which included the Rainbow Tick accreditation process as part of its commitment to inclusivity. It achieved the Rainbow Tick accreditation in February 2016.

The National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), an independent not for profit research institute (www.nari.net.au) has been funded by Lifeview to undertake a project to determine what older LGBTI consumers and potential staff want. The project will include surveys of older LGBTI people and prospective aged care staff.  The surveys are completely anonymous.

If you wish to take part in the follow-up focus groups or find out more about the project, please contact the lead researcher, Dr Sue Malta at s.malta@nari.unimelb.edu.au or by phone 03 8387 2614.  The project has received ethics approval from Melbourne Health HREC, project number: 2016.091.
