Globe Committee

The GLOBE Committee works in a proactive manner to cater for the needs of members and increase the value of member services.

We are a friendly team of small business owners and professionals, who contribute on a voluntary basis.

If you are keen to join the Committee or wish to share your ideas and thoughts about GLOBE, please come and talk to us at the next function. We are always seeking inspiration and help.

President : Peter Stephenson

Peter Stphenson - Globe PresidentI've been involved with GLOBE for many years now and it's fantastic being able to give back to the GLBTI community through my involvement with GLOBE and its association with other GLBTI organisations. I have always been out at work and it's the one thing that GLOBE can help people be, out and proud at work, by supporting and facilitating them meeting like-minded professionals.

I would like to see GLOBE being a highly respected and proactive GLBTI business community group working not only with business owners and professionals, but also supporting other GLBTI community groups.

Vice President and Sponsorship : David Micallef

Lyall GriffithsDavid is Head of Media and Digital at Fenton Communications in Melbourne and has experience working in the delivery of communications and media relations campaigns.

He has joined to GLOBE Committee and will be working to help market GLOBE events to our members and the wider community.

Finance : Lyall Griffiths
Lyall GriffithsI work for Rio Tinto Exploration as their Finance & Compliance Manager for Australasia. My job involves making sure all aspects of finance are managed properly in diverse countries such as Mongolia, India, Laos and China.

I'm currently based in Perth however when I was in Melbourne, I enjoyed catching up with friends and also knowing that GLOBE contributes to worthwhile causes through the GLOBE annual Community Grants Scheme.

I'd like to see GLOBE become well recognised in the GLBTI community as an organisation that is valued through its professional membership, and by providing resources (financial and time) to other parts of our community.

e-Communication : Jan van der Watt
Jan Van Der WattI work in diverse fields from project management to data modelling to software and web development. On any given day I could chair a boring meeting, create a web site, manage a domain, lead a project or develop software in C++/C#.

GLOBE has shown me that not only is there a large GLBTI community in Melbourne, but also an incredible amount of support for people and organisations within this community. Still, there is great need out there, so I feel that a little more involvement can only do good.

Having been involved in the Committee has really boosted my confidence and self-image. It is reassuring and affirming to work with such a group of motivated people.

Marketing : Ellen Hanson

Carmen PaceWith a background in marketing and sales, I work in the financial services sector, focusing on customer, staffing and process issues.

I particularly enjoy my GLOBE involvement as it provides me with an opportunity to to contribute to the community, whilst at the same time meeting and socialising with great people.

I would like to see us increase our understanding of our current and potential members' expectations, ensuring that what we are delivering reflects their requirements, whether it be at our events or in the way we communicate.

Blend : Carmen Pace

Carmen PaceI am a manager in a large corporation, looking after the people, processes and financials. I am currently finishing my MBA at Swinburne, and will soon be looking at something else to occupy my weekends! I don't expect this to be difficult.

I enjoy the interactions with a diverse group people. GLOBE has members who are business owners, those between roles, those who are taking time out, and those like me that work for other businesses and corporations. Being involved means contributing, supporting and connecting with others in our community.

I would like to see GLOBE develop as an organisation whose brand is sought after as an umbrella: to promote, support and assist the growth of a member's professional life and/or business, alongside other people within the community.

Special Events : Walter Gee

Walter GeeI'm a medical specialist who works full-time in the public health system.

I enjoy volunteering in an organisation that promotes networking and socialising, as well as raising money to support the GLBTI community.

I would really like to see GLOBE raising even more money through our events to support the Community Grant Scheme. I also hope in the next year, that we'll be able to offer our members even more benefits for being part of GLOBE.

Committee Member : Rika Keyser

I am a manager in a large international IT company, looking after the software post sales. I have many years experience as a manager and have a keen interest in what leadership is all about.

I enjoy my GLOBE involvement as it provides me with an opportunity to contribute to the community and meeting new interesting people.

I would like us to grow our membership and ensure our Globe meetings are something people look forward to and see the value of.

Committee Member : Mark Grogan

Mark GroganI have been involved in the real estate industry for 25 years...with my focus now on commercial and residential property management. I started my own business, LMG Commercial Property Services, four years ago, and have found the experience both a challenge and quite rewarding. You learn so much from stepping out from behind an employer and running your own show.

I have also established a training and consulting business that assists other estate agents in training their staff, and looking at how they run their property management departments. I also train people at the Real Estate Institute of Victoria training who want to get into the Real Estate Industry

I started coming to GLOBE events about 16 years ago, and loved the monthly dinners and meeting new people. The introduction of Fruits in Suits for me was a wonderful time, and from there I joined the Committee, eventually doing a two-year stint as President. At that time, I was on the Committee for close to 10 years; and here I am back again! To me, GLOBE represents "opportunities": both social and business networking. I love seeing how people grow from these events.

I have met so many great people and had great opportunities as a result of belonging to GLOBE. I want to encourage others to share in this experience.

I would love to see GLOBE work within our community on a more consistent basis: assisting and helping through a variety of events. GLOBE is both a social group and a business network group, and we need to be active in both areas. We are certainly active now, but there are opportunities to take advantage of and more relationships to explore.

GLOBE has vision and energy, and I look forward to spreading the love!
